Mind the digital skills gap

Why are so many talented young graduates working in coffee shops or unable to find a job?

And with so many world class universities why are fast growing companies struggling to recruit graduates with the right technical skills in the UK?

As computation touches ever more areas of our lives, the size and scope of the digital economy also grows. Digital skills are essential in seizing opportunities in our increasingly digital world. This is central to the UK’s long term competitiveness and prosperity.

The UK has some of the best universities in the world. London in particular has more world class universities than any other city in the world. However, tech ecosystems are still young in the UK compared to the US.

What role should universities play in creating skills for the digital economy?
