The AHRC Creative Economy Showcase 2014
March 12, 2014
The UK’s Creative Economy – embracing the creative industries and the cultural sector – is a dynamic and vital part of our economy. It accounts for more than 5% of UK Gross Value Added (higher than Financial Services, Advanced Manufacturing and Construction), nearly 10% of the economy, and is estimated to be growing at a higher rate than any other sector.
Complex, rich in its diversity and characterised by great differences of scale, the sector ranges from major corporations to small and micro enterprises. It is increasingly clear, however, through the work of the Knowledge Exchange Hubs for the Creative Economy, Brighton Fuse and the Digital R and D Fund for the Arts, amongst many other initiatives, that the arts and humanities are a vital element of the Creative Economy, bringing further creativity, insight and knowledge to a sector as rich and varied as it is successful and innovative.
The AHRC’s Creative Economy showcase will:
Keynote speakers will include the Rt Hon David Willetts, the Rt Hon Ed Vaizey,Sebastian Conran (Designer), Professor Judy Simons (Emeritus Professor, De Montfort University), Dr David Docherty (CEO, National Centre for Universities and Business) and Professor Rick Rylance (CEO, AHRC).
Among the creative sectors to be explored during the day are: design, videogames, digital technologies, fashion, dance, architecture, festivals, broadcasting, visual arts, archives, and many more.
