Lines In The Ice: New songs recorded part of CEIR residency

Rob Sherman, former Creativeworks London (CWL) Creative Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the British Library returned earlier this month to record some songs that he created as part of his residency.

The residency project was all about a fictional polar explorer in the 1850s setting sail with a band of Derbyshire sailors, and these songs are part of their story; revealing their myths, desires, history and impact on the rest of the world. Some are original, others adapted from other shanties, working songs or folk pieces.

The songs will be released for free on the British Library’s Soundcloud as an early Christmas present, as well as being placed into the Library’s Sound Archive until Doomsday. Rob was joined in the recording booth (usually used for interviews and oral histories) with his talented musical friend Nick Henderson, and some of the curators that he worked with during his time at the Library for a good old singalong.

You can listen to the song’s on the British Library’s Soundcloud, the songs will be online the week beginning Monday 14th December 2015.
