Fantasy High Street Presents: Crystal Palace Carrier Crows (24 – 28 June 2015)

A trail of messages delivered by our digital birds that unlock the magic of the festival and offer some tasty discounts, coming to Crystal Palace this summer

Fantasy High Street places performance and visual artists in and around local businesses, to celebrate the high street as an essential community hub. Following the success of its Magical Sprite Village installation at Crystal Palace Overground Festival last year, Fantasy High Street is returning to the festival this summer with an exciting research project which will allow audiences to follow a range of clues around the festival and the high street using a digital wristband.

Crystal Palace Overground Festival is a free, community-driven event that animates Crystal Palace with performance, music, film, kid’s activities, food and trading stalls. Fantasy High Street will work in partnership with King’s College London to undertake a new feasibility study, which begins to explore the social and economic impact that free festivals have on the communities they exist in. In order to deliver the project, Fantasy High Street will also be working in partnership with Excelerated Apps, a consumer engagement company who make interactive RFID technology for events.

During the festival, in conjunction with its arts events and participating local businesses in Crystal Palace, Fantasy High Street will be offering 200 people the chance to have an enhanced festival experience on the Crystal Palace Carrier Crows trail. Festival-goers who wear a trail wristband will be able to navigate their way around the festival by triggering clues from one exciting spot to the next, unlocking interactive experiences and special discounts in independent local shops. Along with the excitement of making their festival experience interactive, participants who wear a wristband will also be contributing to a research study that helps to prove the important role that free arts festivals play in the communities they exist in.

Fantasy High Street’s Creative Director Lydia Fraser-Ward said:

“It’s so wonderful to return to Crystal Palace Overground Festival in 2015 with a new project. People who wear our special digital festival wristbands will not only get special discounts in local shops but will also unlock an adventure trail around town which should be really fun and exciting.”

It’s completely free to take part, and people can register for a free wristband by following links to an online form on the Crystal Palace Overground festival website, or go in person to the registration desk at the festival from 24 – 28 June 2015.
